Root Groups use social networking to stay connected all week

Hey Rumbloggers,

High Park Baptist Church “Root Groups” can use social networking to stay connected all week.

I am a pastor of a church.  Our College and Career Ministry meets on Tuesday nights.  Some people miss it because of work or exams, or both!  We just made a move to keep everyone in the loop using social networking…

Just launched a Facebook group for a 18-35yr age focussed “Root Group” in order to keep connected between Tuesday night events and Sunday worship services at HPBC!

How do you stay connected with your peers for encouragement?

Do you feel out of the loop?

I can help!

Video – Roncesvalles Renewed construction challenges businesses to employ social media

As a local minister and resident, I love to chit-chat and check in with people as I stroll Roncesvalles multiple times a day!
In case you are unaware, the Roncesvalles Renewed Project is clearly impacting our neighbourhood. What a party we will have when it is completely renewed.  During this physical renewal project, I often pray for social and spiritual renewal as well.
I am learning how people lead their lives through this time!
Local businesses are responding to this circumstantial and character challenge by employing social media to keep awareness high!  We are very innovative people in ‘these here parts’! Please watch this you 12 minute video expressing the experience of such innovative local leaders. There is even a picture of High Park Baptist Church. ~Yeah~

My Spring Break Birthday Bash on March 4 at Hard Rock Toronto

Will you celebrate my Bday with me please?

Save the date Friday March 4.

As I enter a new year (33rd), I want to surround myself with fun, caring people from my different worlds in one place – Hard Rock Cafe Toronto (Upper Lounge).  It is at 279 Yonge Street (at Dundas Square). Easy access by ttc (Dundas Station) and has lots of underground parking!

The venue is perfect for mingling and music.

There will be a live band from 830-930pm and then DJ Matt C spinning a mix from 930pm-12am.

This is not a fundraiser ($5 cover and cash bar) or a bait and switch Jesus thing (I am a gospel guy though).

Invite people so we can break the 200 barrier!Walk ups and last minute is fine.

Why not meet someone new and cool in a fun place?

See who you know on the facebook event gguest list and plan to come in groups.

No presents, just presence! :)

Value 1: Becoming a Worship Community

We value becoming a Worship Community

At HPBC, Our first value towards impacting lives is to become this: “A Prayerful Community Worshipping Jesus Christ Passionately in Spirit and Truth”.

What might that look like?

Imagine every individual having consistent, long periods of peaceful, restful and refreshing meditative prayer in their private room.

Imagine living daily challenges and chores with a reverent joy all week, and then entering the Sanctuary to pour out your heart’s praise and pain.

Imagine a circular room crammed full of 500 people.  Many lifted hands and loud voices. People tuned in to the Spirit of God together.

Imagine, in that same circular room, both the floor and balcony packed with people who all look into the written word of God for the Truth to live by as someone teaches inspirationally.

Imagine a cross-generational, multi-ethnic, socially diverse community who prays with powerful results!

Crucified and Resurrected Lord Jesus Christ, only you can make us ”A Prayerful Community Worshipping Jesus Christ Passionately in Spirit and Truth”.

Lord, cause all we are to respond to all you are!

On Sunday, I will show you some of the verses that make me believe Jesus Christ can make us into people like that at HPBC.

Theology Pub by Toronto Pastors

I was fire side at Bishop and Belcher Pub in the Church and Wellesley Village last night.

The perfect vibe for this faith furthering fraternal forum.

Pastors, Professors discussed key words and names of historical leaders in and around our movements.

The paper that was presented by Dr. Craig A. Carter will be on the Gospel Coalition Blog.

Many of the main words that make gospel guys tingle were heard.

The Theology Pub site has the blogroll of main Dudes.

It was Martin Luther King Junior Day but we talked more about Martin Luther.

Layers of Loving Leadership at HPBC

Hey RumBloggers,

I am teaching our church about our “Vision and Values Series”.  Join us next week.

Here is the second message on church leadership character and structure.  I entitled it “Layers of Loving Leadership”.

Listen to this message from Sunday January 16th at High Park Baptist Church.

It will help us organize ourselves into a structure that enables us to better fulfill our mission, vision and values.

Friends on Facebook (adamrumball) & Twitter (@adamrumball) have contributed to my thoughts on leadership.  Some favourites are from Mike Mileski, Ryan Dawson and Travis Tait.

Check out this sermon and comment below.

I hope you find your place in a local church’s layers of loving leadership.

Vision and values sermon. Join our mission to be followers of Jesus Christ impacting High Park neighbourhoods

We just finished a powerful service. Now I’m posting this for your “enjedification” (Enjoyment + Edification).

Mission statements help real impact by focussing effort and inspiring victory!

Do you have a personal mission statement? We have one as a church.

There has been a great deal of scriptural reflection, prayer and word smithing by our leadership.

In 2011, You can join our mission to be followers of Jesus Christ impacting High Park neighbourhoods!

Here is the first sermon in the new series called “Vision and Values”.

Isaiah 40:28-31 (ESV) speak of this everlasting and powerful God giving strength to his people.

28Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.

He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding is unsearchable.
29He gives power to the faint,
and to him who has no might he increases strength.
30Even youths shall faint and be weary,
and young men shall fall exhausted;
31but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.

Leading through transition is about talking and trusting together

Life is a series of transitions.

It could be a death of a family member, divorce, job demotion or downsizing, physical demolition by cancer or construction.

I am a man in personal transitions including family relationship transitions and residential move.

I am Pastoring people in a church that is birthing new dreams for a new day ahead.

I am a resident in a neighbourhood that is under physical construction.

There is change ALL AROUND ME!

Here are some thoughts from Fellowship Networks that are from men who are helping me lead through transition.

Thanks to Pastoral Coach Gary V Carter and Pastoral Coach Robin Pifer and co-host Dan Shurr for this blog talk radio program.

I have read this book and heard their reflections.

Managing Transitions: Making the Most of Change by William Bridges

3 phases of managing transitions:

1.  Ending of Old: Accepting losses, letting go of old circumstances: a role, an identity, a relationship, a physical home.

2.  Neutral Zone: The uncomfortable in between, chaotic, not old but not new yet.

3.  New Beginning: New identity, new energy, new benefits.

I am learning that leading myself and others through transitions of various kinds is about talking together and trusting the Lord.

Transitioning together requires talking and trusting together!

Let’s go somewhere new and better together.

Sacred Seed 12: Grow in your freedom to fill spiritual and social cracks in Toronto

What are the social and spiritual cracks in Toronto that you see?  I asked my facebook friends, twitter tweeps, my church and now you!

What do you think? Single Moms, Mental Health Recovery, Economic Distress, New Canadians adapting and accessing services, safe and clean housing for all? other cracks?

High Park Baptist Church can play a unique and complementary role in the filling of cracks left by the good and honourable work done from other sectors in Toronto!  Vice Versa too!  Churches leave many cracks too!

All three sectors need to work together, yet remain distinct to be there best!

Where do you fit into the crack filling effort?

If you notice the cracks in society and wonder what is the place of the church in filling these cracks then you will enjoy this message.

The greatest spiritual and social Crack Filler ever is Jesus Christ.  Look to him! He can fill the cracks in your life and help you to fill the cracks around you as well!

Here’s the first sermon of the new year. It is the final sermon of my 12 sacred seeds series.
